The Maine Highlands Region is a special place.  Piscataquis County, located in the center of the Maine Highlands, has such a low population density that it meets the United States Census Bureau definition of a "frontier".  The Maine Highlands encompass some the largest stretches of uninterrupted wilderness east of the Mississippi River.  The Appalachian Trail ends here at Mount Katahdin and the largest lake in Maine, Moosehead Lake is here as well.  The lifestyle in the quite, picturesque New England landscape is low cost, relaxing, and is unmatched anywhere else in New England.

We aim to preserve, protect, and maintain the Culture, Economy, and Character of the region by taking best practices from Public, Private, and not-for-profit organizations.
